Report: Patriots Move Nick Folk To 53-Man Roster, Name Him a Starter

The New England Patriots have decided to make kicker Nick Folk part of the 53-man roster. They made the change earlier this week, which means that Folk is probably going to be the team’s kicker for the rest of the season.

Folk went up against kicker Justin Rohrwasser for the starting position this year. However, the team ultimately decided against making Rohrwasser the starter due to his lack of experience. He is, after all, a rookie this year. That means that we will be seeing more from Folk this year.

In the team’s first game of the season, Folk missed a 45-yard kick but hit his three extra-point attempts. When talking to reporters about the game and his missed kick, he explained:

“As far as the kick today goes, I just didn’t hit it right. With that kind of wind, it was just a little different down there. I just didn’t hit it super clean. The extra points, those aren’t gimmes anymore. I was happy with those and happy with the win.”

When talking about both Nick Folk and Justin Rohrwasser earlier this year, head coach Bill Belichick told reporters:

“I think both players are good kickers. We will see how it goes. I think that will be up to them to decide. But, we’ve talked to Nick throughout the course of the spring and even training camp. Things worked out here last week. It is great to have him. He certainly came in and did a good job for us last year. Things just didn’t work out until recently with Nick and so I am glad they did. I am glad he’s here. We’ll see how it turns out. I don’t know. Those two guys will get as much opportunity as we can give them. We’ll evaluate it and go from there.

“But, we’ve been talking to Nick since March. This isn’t something that came up a few days ago. It is been an on-going conversation, for several months actually.”

We are glad to see him back on the roster!
