Patriots coach Bill Belichick held a press conference earlier this week to talk about the recent happenings with his team, including the seven players that decided to opt out.
When talking about this, Belichick started off by saying: “I feel very good about the environment that we’re in. I feel fine.” Then, Belichick spoke about how his team hopes to process without the players that have opted out. He said: “As always, we’ll try to look at our options and do what we feel is best for the football team. That’s what we’ll continue to do.”
Many of the reporters are interested in what the Patriots after focusing on this offseason, considering that they have undergone quite a lot of roster changes. About this, Belichick said:
“My impression is, as an organization, as a coaching staff, the support people, the players, there’s a comfort level with what we’re doing and who’s doing it and how we’re doing it and we’re being productive. If concerns or problems come up, then we’ll address those. But right now, I think it’s a good working environment. We’re getting a lot done.”
Belichick went on to say:
“Certainly, there’s a lot of responsibility on each one of us to do things in a way that don’t affect others negatively and that we take the proper precautions that we can and should.”
And about the roster going forward, Belichick said:
“You have two options: if you keep that team at 90, you have to split the team into two different groups and if you keep 80, you don’t. Everybody’s going to have to go to 80 on August 16. There’s probably going to be other teams that go to 80 on Sunday or Monday. Those were our options, to keep the team together now or keep them apart and have separate virtual meetings and then bring them together at the start of this week or continue to keep them apart and bring them all together on the 16th when the rosters, the mandatory cut down to 80 occurs. We felt like this was the best option for our team, so that’s why we did it.”
We can’t wait to see what the selected players will do for the Patriots in the upcoming season.
