Here’s Why The Patriots Are Silent About Cam Newton’s Arrival

The New England Patriots signed quarterback Cam Newton just recently. He is expected to be the team’s new starter after the departure of Tom Brady.

So far, the Patriots players have not spoken that much about having Newton around. Most of his new teammates have downplayed his arrival. For example, guard Joe Thuney said only this when talking to reporters earlier this week:

“Yeah, he’s been great. A lot of great energy. Just works hard so far. It’s been great to meet him and everything, and looking forward to seeing what happens.”

It seems that coach Bill Belichick has told all his players to keep quiet on Newton because Thuney is not the only one who has been vague on the topic. Center David Andrews said this last week:

“Cam obviously has played a lot of football and had a successful career. I’m excited to see what all our quarterbacks can do. They all bring something different to the table.”

Running back James White added:

“I know he’s a very competitive, very good football player. I’m excited to have him in the locker room. We have three talented quarterbacks on this football team, guys who can go out and compete and help us get wins. … We will all be competing for playing time.”

So far, we know that Newton has been working out with Patriots receivers Julian Edelman, Mohamed Sanu, Damiere Byrd, Jakobi Meyers and Gunner Olszewski and tight end Devin Asiasi. We believe that each one of these players has a lot to say about Newton but they are holding back.

We don’t even know who will be the starting quarterback for the Patriots this season. Maybe it will be Newton, maybe it will be Stidham. We are yet to see what happens when the season finally starts in a couple of months.
