Former Patriots Coach Says Cam Newton-Jarrett Stidham Battle Isn’t Even Close

The New England Patriots underwent a lot of roster changes this offseason, the most notable being the one at the quarterback position. Without Tom Brady, the Patriots will have to rely on newby Jarrett Stidham or veteran Cam Newton who just signed with the team.

A legendary former Patriots coach, Dante Scarnecchia, recently spoke about his thoughts on the quarterback position going into the 2020 season. He believes that Newton won’t have any problems fitting in with the team:

“I think [Newton] has a huge edge, because of what he’s done in the league. The guy was an MVP [in 2015]. We played against him a number of times, have a huge respect for him as a player and leader, and the things he’s done. This guy, from a skillset, [is] a lot different from guys we’ve had in there at quarterback over the years.”

He went on to add:

“Stidham has great feet and ability to move and avoid the rush and create and do a lot of similar things. I don’t think he’s to Cam’s skillset, but this guy is a pretty good player. He also has a tremendous work ethic, and he’s a smart guy. I know this, you have to be a smart guy to play quarterback in that system. Having said all that, the cupboard is not half empty by any means. I think there is a lot of enthusiasm. The situation looks a lot different than it did two months ago.”

Belichick, on the other hand, still doesn’t want to say who will be the starter for the upcoming season:

“That (quarterback) spot’s the same as all of the other spots on the team. We’ve got a long way to go, and we’ll see how things turn out. I can’t control how players perform. That’s up to them. We’ll give everyone an opportunity and see what happens. I don’t know.”

We are yet to see what happens!
