A couple of months back, Jay Glazer shared his thoughts that Jarrett Stidham was the next face of the New England Patriots. However, he did add that there was “one major factor out there in Cam Newton,” a free agent at the time after being released by the Carolina Panthers.
Well, just last week, Newton agreed to a deal with the New England Patriots. Now, he has made things worse for Stidham but a lot better for the Patriots who will benefit a lot from this move if Newton is able to stay healthy. With that being said, this is what Glazer had to say about this new contract:
“Newton to the Patriots is so, um, well, Patriots-like. A low-risk contract with a potential high reward if he returns to form. How many times have we seen veterans who seemed to be on their last legs go to the Patriots and then shine again? Bill Belichick has reignited the careers of many and it would not be surprising if he does it again with Newton.”
Belichick will be able to make the best out of Newton’s time with the team. He knows how talented Newton is, something that he made clear in an interview from a couple of years back:
“I think when you’re talking about mobile quarterbacks, guys that are tough to handle, tackle, can throw, run, make good decisions — I mean, I would put Newton at the top of the list. Not saying that there aren’t a lot of other good players that do that, but I would say, of all the guys we play or have played recently in the last couple of years, I would definitely put him — he’s the hardest guy to deal with. He makes good decisions, he can run, he’s strong, he’s hard to tackle. He can do a lot of different things, beat you in a lot of different ways. We saw that in the game down there in ‘13, so I would put him at the top of the list. Not saying the other guys aren’t a problem, because they are, but he’s public enemy No. 1.”
We can’t wait to see what happens in the next season!
