After many, many months of chasing him and the opportunity to get him in Los Angeles, the Lakers were finally able to get Anthony Davis to join their team via trade.
Ever since Davis joined the team, they have been one hell of a successful season. With 24 wins and 4 losses, they sit atop the Western Conference. However, this has not been enough to convince Davis to resign with the Lakers after the end of the season. During a recent interview, he explained that he plans to enter free agency next summer no matter what happens this season with his team:
“I still look at it as we’ll see what happens at the end of the season. Obviously, the season’s going great so far and I’m trying to stay in the moment and worry about that when the season’s over. But I feel like we can do something special this year. With the team that we put together and the coaching staff that we have, I don’t feel like no one can beat us but the Los Angeles Lakers.
“But when that time comes I’ll think about it and see what’s going on. But right now I’m trying to focus and win a championship with the Los Angeles Lakers.”
Rich Paul, Davis’s agent, told Sports Illustrated this summer that Davis wants to go over all his options for the upcoming season. He said:
“Where he’s going to land? I have no idea. And it don’t matter. We’re going into free agency. Why does it matter to me where he goes? Earth: We’re going into free agency. He has a year, he has to play. But after that, I can’t say it no bigger: WE ARE GOING INTO FREE AGENCY. 2020: ANTHONY DAVIS WILL BE IN FREE AGENCY.”
We sure hope he will decide to stay with the Los Angeles Lakers for a couple more years!
