Dwyane Wade announced his decision to retire after sixteen seasons in the league. After entering the league in 2003, he played for several teams but spent the majority of his career with the Miami Heat. Because of that, he decided to retire with the Miami Heat at the end of the 2018 season.
Even though he has already left the NBA, he doesn’t have to be in the gym prepping for next season with his former teammate LeBron James to know that the Lakers star is ready to go. While at the launch of the NBA 2K20, Wade talked about James and said:
“I don’t need to talk to him about this year. You all know LeBron. He’s in the lab, he’s getting ready, he’s going to give you the best version of LeBron James.”
These two players spent several seasons together and managed to win two titles together with the Heat. Wade went on to say that he is as impressed as anything with the longevity of a player who came into the league at the same time as him:
“I think what we all love to see is a guy going into his 17th season still dominating the league the way he’s been dominating. It’s truly special, so keep watching.”
This year, there will be a big rivalry between the Lakers who have LeBron James and Anthony Davis, and the Clippers who have Paul George and Kawhi Leonard. Wade added that this is a “great time” to be a fan of sports in Southern California:
“I look forward to being a fan and rooting these teams on. Obviously, with LeBron being on the Lakers, I got a dog in the fight from a friend standpoint, but I definitely think it’s going to be a great time this season to enjoy basketball and sports.”
We can’t wait for the 2019 NBA season to start!
