Professional atheletes have many fans from all over the world, so it’s understandable that they would be recognized on the street. However, when it comes to veteran NFL wide receiver Danny Amendola, it was the other way round.
Amendola recently met a young fan who happened to be wearing his replica Miami Dolphins jersey. He walked up to him and asked:
‘Hey bro, bro, come here. You know whose jersey you’re wearing?’
The kid replied by saying:
‘Yes, Danny Amendola.’
One could see the excitement in Amendola’s eyes when the kid said his game. He reacted with this statement:
‘That’s me. How are you brother?’
Amendola went on to post a picture of the two together giving the ‘shaka’ with their hands. It looks like this encounter happened in downtown Miami.
The Dolphins finished their regular season with seven wins and nine defeats, leaving them among the teams that didn’t make it to the playoffs. This means that Amendola will have the next months to rest. If he would have stayed with the Patriots, he would have been preparing for the next game right about now. However, he chose to leave the team and continue his career in Miami.
Over the course of five years spent with the Patriots, Amendola had 230 receptions and 12 touchdowns. This season, he appeared in 15 games, making 59 receptions, one of which was for a touchdown. Also, he threw the first touchdown pass of his career.
When asked why he left the Patriots, he said;
“I came in with an open mind, I understand Bill [Belichick] runs a tight ship, and he hasn’t been known to pay his players, really. I understood that I gave money back to him so I could play for him and play for my teammates and fulfill my side of the contract, and at the end of the day, I had faith that he was going to give me an opportunity to stay.”
Better luck next year with getting to the playoffs, Dolphins!
